Summer Sports Lull

Its that horrible time of year, the worst time of year, the most dreadful time of year....hope that gets the point across. It's the lag time in sports in between the NBA Finals and the NFL & College Football season. From mid June to the beginning of September a portion of sports fans are left to wonder about their summer without saying the phrase "are you watching the game." My friends and I even found ourselves watching a soccer match because sadly it was the best thing on. Nothing against soccer by the way. I even sat through an inning of Baseball....almost. But mostly I've been locked into NFL Network trying to catch a glimpse of any football activity. It's mid July and NFL training camp is on the horizon so stories should be brewing from trades, injuries and position battles. Also August 9th marks the date of the 1st Preseason NFL game, often an anticlimactic event. You find yourself so amped up that the pigskins being thrown around and 3 minutes into it you realize the players are going half speed and the 2nd half is full of no namers. Real action doesn't officially kick off unitl September 3rd when the South Carolina Gamecocks meet the North Carolina State Wolfpack for the opening game of the college football season. Even though I'm not a fan of either I can't wait for that one to get started. The NFL season doesn't start until September 13th when the defending super bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers start their title defense against the Tennessee Titans. I get excited just typing that. However thats more than a month away so we're left to sit through World Series of poker re-runs and whatever sitcom we've halfway gotten attached to over the past few months. NFL & College Football Live will just have to keep us holding on.

Hosea FTH

Today i did my first official day of community service...or volunteer work which ever you'd like to call it. Really waking up anytime in the a.m. is a struggle for me but i was able to crawl out of bed and make myself go down there today. I was helping out at Hosea Williams Feed The Hungry. They are best known for their thanx gvn dinners for the homeless and their christmas dinners. I signed in at 10:08 and went to the warehouse and was told to break down boxes (flatten them so they could be recycled) Being down there i got to mingle with people i normally wouldn't, i was working with an older guy named Eugene other than a couple missing teeth he seemed like a average guy, until he mentioned he had 13 felonies...not to worry he was only convicted of 2. Being down there def gave me a different perspective on things just a bit. Seeing ppl waiting in line for food boxes and putting them in their shopping carts and rolling up the street and on with their lives. It makes you appreciate the opportunities you have.

worst part of the day: Apparently they have a fridge that cuts off and stays off when the power goes out...so over the weekend the power went out and the food was left to spoil for 4 days. The smell was...dreadful. The food turned to sploosh ...for lack of a better term. I could still smell that stuff when i went to lunch with my mom... p u.lol

The Late Great Michael Jackson

Simply a remarkable artist. His influence is seen in all aspects of the entertainment industry. So influential that ppl don't even realize when their mimicking him. In his recent passing the media and public has had an outpouring of love for him. Varying from tv specials, music videos, dedicating award shows to him, and not to mention the playing of the Jackson an american dream movie. To it seems deserved for his contribution but also it seems that people are trivializing his death. The same people who cracked jokes about him and just said how all around weird he was all a sudden are going to miss him dearly. People truly don't appreciate something until its gone and thats sad. I can't really say im not guilty of the same because i did download a couple more Mj songs. With all that i still don't see myself crying for him and saying how much im going to miss him. To the public he's just as alive today as he was a month ago if not more. The stations are constantly playing his music and his face is always on the Tv. With out pours like this its always interesting to see how long they last. No doubt the greatness of his music will live on forever. I just believe that people are taking it too far, people don't dedicate their facebook statuses to family members that pass, but when michael passes he gets 3 updates a week and a profile pic. I'm not sayin people shouldn't miss this superstar but just need to put it in perspective thats all and don't mourn because it's the cool thing to do. Everyone seems to be in a who's hurt the most competition.

with that said Lady of My Life go too hard !

R.i.p. Mr. Jackson
you lived a life like no other
